Google My Maps Embed Not Working? How to Fix It on Desktop and Mobile

A blank or refused Google My Maps embed may be a map that is not public or a pasted share link. Check sharing, use the embed code, then size the iframe.

A Google My Maps embed that shows blank, says "refused to connect" or looks wrong on a phone may come from a map that is not public, or a share link pasted where the embed code should go. Fix those two first, then check the size of the iframe and where you pasted it.

The short answer: set the map to Make your map public, copy the code from Embed on my site, paste it into an HTML or embed block, and give the iframe a flexible width.

Fixes to Try First

1. Make the Map Public

As of October 2026, Google's My Maps help says to make sure the map is public before you embed it (Google My Maps help). Its sharing options are listed as Allow link sharing, which shares your URL with specific people, and Make your map public, which allows anyone to find your map.

Open the map in My Maps, click Share, and check which option is on.

Google's help describes the route as: in the left panel, click Share or Menu, then Embed on my site. Copy the iframe code that appears and paste that.

The link you copy from Share is a web page address. The embed code is different: it starts with <iframe.

3. If You See "Refused to Connect"

The most likely cause is that the map is not public. Google's help says "Make sure the map is public." Make the map public, reload the page and test in a private browser window where you are not signed in to Google.

4. Check the Iframe Width and Height

Wix's help says the HTML and URL elements in its editor are iframes, and that the code or site you embed will not be responsive, even if it is originally (Wix help). Set the iframe width and height to 100% so it fills its container.

On any site builder, try replacing the fixed width with 100% and keep a sensible height, for example:

<iframe src="YOUR-MY-MAPS-EMBED-URL" width="100%" height="480" style="border:0"></iframe>

Keep the src from your own embed code. Only change the size.

5. Webflow: Check the Published Site

We have not confirmed in Webflow's current docs whether a My Maps iframe renders in the Designer preview, so test on the published site rather than relying on the preview. Publish the site, open the live page, and check there.

6. Test on a Phone

Open the published page on a phone, in a browser where you are not signed in to Google. If the map shows on desktop and not on the phone, repeat fixes 1 to 4 first. We have not confirmed a browser-specific cause for iPhone Safari, so we do not name one here.

Other Ways to Show Your Places

If you would rather not depend on My Maps sharing, you can make a hosted map from a Google Maps list link or a CSV and embed that instead. The Takeout Tools map editor gives you a public link and an iframe snippet. Our guide to embedding a Google Maps list on your website covers both the My Maps rebuild and the hosted route, so the steps are not repeated here.

On a hosted map's embed view, panning needs two fingers or a modifier key, so the map does not trap someone who is scrolling your page. That applies to the embed only, not to the public link page.
