You want a store locator or "stockists" page on your Shopify store, with a map of the shops that carry your products. You do not have to install a store locator app to get one. A hosted map gives you an iframe snippet, and Shopify lets you paste HTML into a page or into a Custom Liquid section.

The short answer: make a map of your stockists, copy its iframe embed code, then paste it into the HTML of a Shopify page (Online Store > Pages), or into a Custom Liquid section in the theme editor if your theme has one. Menu names can differ slightly between themes, so check yours.

The Fastest Way: Map, Then Paste

  1. Get your stockists into a list (see Getting Your Stockists Onto a Map below)
  2. Open Make a map, sign in and add your places from a Google Maps list link, or upload a CSV in the editor
  3. On the Share step, click Publish map, choose a shape and copy the iframe snippet
  4. Paste it into your store using one of the two routes below

If you need postcode search or a locations database, a locator app from the App Store does that; this guide covers the pasted map.

The snippet is a standard iframe:

<iframe src="https://www.takeout-tools.com/embed/your-map-id" title="Your stockists map" style="width:100%;aspect-ratio:16 / 9;border:0;border-radius:8px" loading="lazy" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Route 1: Paste It Into a Page

Shopify's own help page for pages describes pasting an embed code into the page HTML, using a Google Maps iframe as the example. Our snippet is the same kind of tag, but Shopify only documents the Google Maps case, so check the preview before you publish.

  1. In your Shopify admin, go to Online Store > Pages
  2. Click Add page (or open your existing "Stockists" page)
  3. In the Content toolbar, click the button that shows the page's HTML code
  4. Paste the iframe snippet into the Content box, then click Show Editor to preview the map
  5. Click Save

Route 2: Add a Custom Liquid Section

Use this if you want the map in a theme section, for example under a banner. Shopify's help pages say that if your theme offers a Custom Liquid section, you can add code to it in the theme editor. Themes in Shopify's Theme Store are required to include one, but older or custom themes may not.

  1. In your Shopify admin, go to Online Store, find your theme and click Edit theme
  2. Click the template drop-down at the top of the editor (it shows Home page by default), select the page template type and click Create template
  3. Name the template, for example "Stockists", choose the existing template to base it on, then click Create template
  4. In the sidebar, click Add section and choose Custom Liquid
  5. Paste the iframe snippet into the section and click Save
  6. Back in your Shopify admin, go to Online Store > Pages, open your stockists page, pick the new template under Theme template and click Save

If you have not made a stockists page yet, create one under Online Store > Pages first.

Getting Your Stockists Onto a Map

A map needs a position for every shop. There are two common starting points.

A Google Maps List

If you already save your stockists in Google Maps, share the list with a public link and paste the link into the map editor. Each place comes back with its name, coordinates and your note. Places new to your account go through the usual checkout. Our guide to embedding a Google Maps list on your website walks through that route in detail.

A Spreadsheet of Stockists

If your stockists live in a spreadsheet, save it as a CSV with a name column and latitude and longitude columns (headers such as name, lat and lng), then upload it in the editor. Address-only spreadsheets cannot be mapped yet, so add coordinates first. Our guide to getting coordinates from a shared Google Maps list shows one way to do it.

Honest Limits

  • A pasted map shows all your stockists at once. It does not offer a postcode search or "nearest to me" ranking
  • The map does not follow your source by itself. After you change a Google list, use Refresh from Google in the editor; after you change a CSV, upload it again. Edits to a published map show in the embed without touching your Shopify page
  • Section names and menu labels vary by theme and change over time. If your theme has no Custom Liquid section, use the page route above
  • Test the page on your phone. Pick a taller shape if the map feels cramped on a narrow screen

Tips for a Better Stockists Page

  • Put the map under a short intro: one line telling shoppers they can also buy from these shops
  • Use one list per type of shop: for example "Cafes" and "Gift shops". With more than one list, visitors can switch each list on or off
  • Add a note to each place: the note appears on the place card when a visitor taps the pin
  • Link from your menu: Shopify says you can add a link to a page in a menu, so shoppers can reach your stockists page from the navigation
