What Google Business Profile needsYou don't have to do any of it
- Use the template from your own Business Profile account. Its headings depend on your account's language.
- Store codes are how Google knows each place. A changed code makes a second listing.
- An empty cell wipes what Google shows, so columns you have no data for are left out.
You don't have to do any of this. Drop your file and we do all three.

Bulk upload is for businesses with 10 or more locations. Google's template changes with your account language and categories, so we do not publish one. Download yours, add it in the tool as your template, then add your list.
Get your template
- In Business Profile Manager, go to Add profile, then Import profiles.
- Choose "Download the template". "Download sample spreadsheet" gives a filled example, and "Download attributes reference spreadsheet" lists the attributes.
- In the tool above, upload that template. Only its header row is used.
- Add your list of locations. We match your columns to Google's.
What Google needs on every location
- Store code (some help pages call it Business code), business name, Address line 1, Country/Region and Primary category.
- A Primary phone or a Website.
- Locality, Administrative area and Postal code depend on the country. Administrative area is required in Australia, optional in Portugal and not used in France.
Field rules that trip people up
- Store code: unique, up to 64 characters, no leading or trailing spaces, no < or > and no URLs.
- Business name: up to 100 characters.
- Address lines: up to 80 characters each. No P.O. boxes.
- Country/Region: a full name or a 2-letter code like US.
- Administrative area: a full name, a postal abbreviation like CA, or an ISO code like US-CA. Try another form if one is rejected.
- Website: a full URL starting http:// or https://, up to 256 characters.
- Additional categories: up to 9, comma-separated. Use the names Google's category autocomplete shows.
- Hours: one column per day, like 09:00-17:00 or 11:30-14:00, 17:00-22:00. Closed all day is X or an empty cell.
- Labels: up to 10, each up to 50 characters. A comma inside a label is written %2c.
- Latitude and Longitude are only used when a location is created. They are ignored on updates.
Old headers Google no longer accepts
Also unsupported: Email, Fax, Mobile phone, Ad icon URL, Ad landing page URL, Preferred photo, Profile photo and social media links. Remove them before you import.
| Old header | Use instead |
|---|---|
| City | Locality |
| State | Administrative area |
| District | Sub-locality |
| Main phone | Primary phone |
| Categories | Primary category and Additional categories |
| Description | From the business |
| Payment types | Payments |
| Hours | One column per day |
How updates and duplicates work
The store code is the key. A code Google already knows updates that location. A new code creates one.
A column that is present but empty erases that detail on every location it updates. To change only some fields, keep the store code column and just the columns you are changing. The tool leaves out every column you have not filled.
You cannot change a store code with a spreadsheet. Adding or changing a code on an existing location creates a duplicate. Watch for spreadsheets that strip leading zeros: 0004 becomes 4, which is a new location.
After upload, Google shows a preview of New, Updates, No updates and Errors. Nothing changes until you apply it.
What fails and why
- "Invalid" with no detail: Google gives no reason, and Help Community threads show many people stuck on it. Start with the old headers and field limits above.
- "You've exceeded the limit for the amount of locations you can upload to Business Profile in a single day": the fix is a request to Google support. Forum users report hitting it with 25 locations.
- Duplicate locations: a store code changed or lost its leading zeros.
- Details wiped: a column was left in the file with empty cells.
Questions
Why does my bulk upload say Invalid with no details?
Google does not say why. Check for headers it no longer accepts, like City or Main phone, and for values over the limits, such as a store code over 64 characters or an address line over 80.
Why can't I upload more locations today?
Google limits how many locations you can upload in a day. The message says "You've exceeded the limit for the amount of locations you can upload to Business Profile in a single day", and the fix is a request to Google support.
Will empty cells wipe my existing details?
Yes. An empty cell in a column you upload erases that detail. The tool leaves out every column you have not filled, so Google keeps what is there.
